Finding the right block of land no matter where the location
is a long and hard job. Hours spent cruising the respective web sites late into
the night, researching local data, trying to understand why one patch of land
has a higher price tag to the next, becoming aware of the local Councils
mindset and then if you are lucky enough to find a real estate agent that will
return your calls so you can spend large sums of money to see a dream even
start.
Some say it's the easy part, finding land and the building is the hard part but for me the block of land has to be just right and you know it the minute you see it, somehow it adds up or speaks to you. I am drawn to land that has a history, a story to tell and Barton Street Katoomba was just that slice in a good little neighbourhood, perched on the high side and at the crest of the street lined with wonderful Autumn trees. The coming of winter seemed to close the deal with thoughts of snuggling evenings by the fire (most likely Gas).
This was Mary's garden, dotted with beautiful hand planted
trees, roses, bulbs and lilies, set amongst established homes and only a few
minutes walk to the local School and lovely Parks. Also within a very short
drive to Boutique shopping, Trains a large Supper Market and the wonderful Café
lifestyle of beautiful Leura.
The plan; to build a large 3 bedroom Cottage with tall ceilings, a formal
lounge, lots of living and open space for entertaining and a fabulous garden
deck to watch the sunsets in a true Mountain style. A Hardwood Timber Clad
Cottage with large wide Verandahs complete with Timber posts and Balustrades, hand
made Fretwork, and featuring solid rich red/brown internal timber floors.
