There is something just wonderful about Katoomba and all the birds. In the late afternoon, the sky is full of sounds and callings of a mixture of beautiful wild birds.
My Neighbour, Mr O tells me I should not feed them but I only put wild seed mix in the dish and they come from all round and it's just a delight!!!
So let's have a break from building & roof pic's for a moment and gaze upon nature including a very rare to see, 'Black Cockatoo'
This King Parrot just could not have cared that I was so close; my neighbour at the rear feeds them from her hand.
This fellow I observed as being 'King Cockatoo'. He sits up in the tree and watches for a short while the others feeding then swoops down & kicks everyone out of the dish. If any other Cockatoo tries to come in to eat, he squawks them off the edge. They all have to wait around for him to have his fill, taking pickings off the ground before he glides off to a nearby tree and then they all jump in.
Now here's the rare fellow, the 'Black Cockatoo' you know they are around as they love to chew on the pine cones & make a great mess but they are hard to spot. I'd say it's because they are black and blend into the trees so well, let's hope it's not because their numbers are falling.
You can just make him out with his yellow eyes.
You can just make out his yellow under tail feathers, how grand.
